Five Reasons Savannah is Family Friendly

If you are thinking about relocating your whole family, you may not be sure where exactly you should go. You want a place where your children can experience all that life has to offer. Though Savannah isn’t filled with theme parks and other exciting places that cater to children, the truth is that it is a perfectly good place to raise a family.

Here are some reasons why Savannah is a family-friendly place, making it a great place to relocate.

Savannah has a lot of rich history.

It is known for its architecture, history, and Southern charm and hospitality. It is filled with old buildings that are still standing (and thriving). There are many historic churches, cemeteries, forts, and homes.

You can visit cemeteries, like Colonial Park Cemetery, which dates back to when Georgia was an English colony, and Laurel Grove Cemetery, which is filled with Confederate soldiers. Fort Jackson was built between 1808 and 1812 to protect the city from attack by sea. Visitors can still see the Fort in all of its glory.  Some preserved homes include the Pink House, the Sorrel-Weed House, the Davenport House Museum, the William Scarbrough House, and the Wormsloe plantation of Noble Jones. You can see a lot of history, just by walking through downtown Savannah and the historic districts. Savannah, ga

Along with great schools, so your children can thrive.

Savannah teachers are dedicated to their students. They want them to thrive. The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System works hard to place focus on every single child so that they can have a successful future. The public school is made up of twenty-four different elementary schools, eight middle schools, and eleven high schools. They also have five charter schools.

If you want your child to go to a private school, you will have plenty of options. Savannah has almost forty private schools that are award-winning schools.

It is a top travel destination.

Because Savannah is located close to the coastal islands, it is a popular tourist destination. Visitors can spend time exploring downtown Savannah and enjoy Tybee Island the same day! They can explore the old mansions, big trees, churches, cemeteries, and cobbled streets. They can visit plenty of museums, enjoy shopping, and take a break at Forsyth Park. There are many different cuisines to choose from when you get hungry. If you have children, there are plenty of fun places for them to explore (and eat)! Visitors can also spend time on the beach relaxing. You can do both on a trip to Savannah.

There are plenty of fun places for children to go.

The Georgia State Railroad Museum train station is located downtown and is filled with old train engines and much more. If you want to continue your day, you can walk next door to the Savannah Children’s Museum. This is a great place for children to learn and explore. If your children are creative, you must visit Henny Penny Art-Space and Cafe. Parents can enjoy a coffee and snack while their children amuse themselves with arts and crafts.

If your children prefer the outdoors, you can let them run off some steam at Forsyth Park. There are acres of green and trees, so your children can run and play for hours. There is also a playground, filled with slides, swings, and much more. If they love animals, The Oatland Island Wildlife Center is only a ten-minute drive.  It is a refuge for wild animals so you (and your children) can watch the animals for hours. There is also a petting zoo if your children prefer to be a little closer.

There are also plenty of restaurants that are family-friendly.

The Pirate’s House is one of the best places for children to eat. It is located in one of the oldest buildings in Savannah, perched on an old fort near the river. Once your children order their favorites, they can turn their menu into a hat, mustache, and earrings for entertainment until the food arrives. Not only do pirates serve the food, but they are also happy to tell stories about their adventures.

The Little Duck Diner gives parents a chance to have a date, while the children play with their rubber duckies. Betty Bombers serves burgers, hot dogs, fries, and other American classics. It is a popular spot for those who were at Forsyth Park since it is close to the playground there. Then, for dessert, you have to try Leopold’s Ice Cream. It has been in business for one hundred years and serves ice cream that was made in-house. Leopold’s is considered one of the top things to do in Savannah, so don’t miss out!
